Privacy Policy

Summary

LocalConvert does not collect, store, or transmit any of your files or personal data. All file processing happens locally on your device using your browser's capabilities. We have no servers to store your data.

What We Don't Collect

  • Files: Your files are never uploaded to any server. All conversion happens locally in your browser.
  • Personal Information: We don't require registration or collect any personal information.
  • Usage Data: We don't track what files you convert, how often you use the service, or any other usage metrics.
  • Cookies: We don't use tracking cookies or any third-party analytics services.

What We Store Locally

LocalConvert stores the following data in your browser's local storage:

  • Settings: Your preferences (theme, default quality, etc.) are stored in localStorage.
  • Conversion History: A record of your recent conversions (file names, sizes, timestamps) is stored in IndexedDB. This is for your convenience only and can be cleared at any time.
  • Cached WASM Files: The conversion engines (FFmpeg, etc.) are cached in your browser for faster loading.

All locally stored data remains on your device and is never transmitted to us.

How Local Processing Works

LocalConvert uses WebAssembly (WASM) technology to run file conversion tools directly in your browser. When you select a file:

  1. The file is read into your browser's memory
  2. The WASM conversion engine processes the file locally
  3. The converted file is made available for download
  4. Original and converted files are cleared from memory when you close the tab

At no point does your file leave your device or touch any external server.

Third-Party Services

LocalConvert loads the following resources from CDNs:

  • FFmpeg WASM Core: Loaded from unpkg.com
  • wasm-vips: Loaded from jsdelivr.net

These are only the WASM libraries needed for conversion. Your files are never sent to these services.

Your Rights

Since we don't collect any personal data, there's nothing to delete or export. You can clear your local data at any time by:

  • Using your browser's "Clear site data" feature
  • Clearing the conversion history from the app settings
  • Uninstalling the PWA

Children's Privacy

LocalConvert does not knowingly collect any data from anyone, including children under 13. Since no data is collected, there is no special treatment needed.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
